[Game Chef '10][In English too!!] Brachininae

Two days ago i submitted my game for the Game Chef. Considering that I'm always a lot optimistic about my job, i'm gonna do (well, ok, I already did it somewhere else...) the same thing that Sebastian Hickey did here. Basically, making a bit of advertising, hoping to be one of the finalists.
This is because the winner is the game that have been played the most during the playoff period. You even don't have to do an Actual Play, I believe, even if it sounds a bit strange to me. Anyway, I would be glad if you did it because I would like to follow this project, and not to abandon it right after the Game Chef.
My game is called Brachininae. It is a pun because it is the scientific name of the Bombardier Beetle. In the game characters are humans that now live like insects, and that are going to bomb the core generator of the robots, that now have become the new supreme race of the world. I mixed up Pearl Harbor and the Terminator's setting, I admit.
What we wanna do is to find out what makes these guys to embark in a mission where they all probably gonna die.
I believe the game is quick... maybe in two hours you have finished. Maybe.
You find it here.

Un paio di note: sposterei la parte After that the winning player has described, the other one has now to chose: he can decide to escalate, or not e After you have skipped it is the turn of your opponent to do the same thing: he can escalate or simply skip prima dell'esempio, altrimenti leggendo che il vincitore fa escalation non si capisce il perché, né si capisce cosa vuol dire skip the turn.

Tra le fonti... A Penny for My Thoughts? Non so se effettivamente ti sia ispirato anche a quello, ma solo vedendo la scheda mi è venuto in mente.

A parte questo... da provare. A leggere le regole sembra interessante.

I have no idea what you guys are saying, but I had a read through your game Alex and I'm really excited by the character generation questions. I love the idea of creating something important and having other people abuse it. It forces you into interesting confrontations. Lovely job!

If you like, I'd like to play a game with you in English over Skype. Let me know if you're available some week night during October.

Sebastian.

Domon asked if Alex read The Mountain Witch, Alex said no and Domon said "Read it".

Translation of my post:

A couple of annotations: I'd move "After that the winning player has described, the other one has now to chose: he can decide to escalate, or not e After you have skipped it is the turn of your opponent to do the same thing: he can escalate or simply skip" before the example, otherwise reading that the winner escalates it's not clear why, nor it's easy to understand what you mean by "skip the turn".

Among the sources... A Penny for My Thoughts? I don't know if you took ideas from it, but just seeing the sheet it comes in mind to me.

That said... I'll try it. Reading the rules it seems interesting.

I admit that there is a bit of Penny in my game, i probably forgot to add it in the credits.

It is since this June that I'm not doing anything, and i will continue this way until November, so i suppose that this Ocotber we will certeanly have the possibility to play it. Only thing: i can write in English without big problems, but if i try to speak it it's a disaster... so let's play it in chat, but without voice. I think it should work well also with a normal chat :S

EDIT:

I forgot to thank Mauro for the annotation about the text. After the game chef i will surely do some adjustments to the handbook and the rules, so i will correct it. For the moment, i believe it is understandable, so i won't correct it, considering that the game is being controlled in these days, and i don't want to be kicked out just because the date of creation of the file is after the submission date. They would probably believe i continued to work on it after the submission.

Hey Alex, don't take it as a stop.
Take it as a list of feedbacks you may use to improve your game.
You are not "out", you're just "not yet there". ^^
For the comments I see, the basic ideas look right; what Jonathan says is that you need to focus the game more on "something" that he couldn't grasp from your script.
Elaborate that, think about what YOU want the game to talk about and focus on that.

Look especially this
Citazione

Aside from journey, the ingredients here are mostly a stretch, which is fine, but I can’t help but think that maybe making the ingredients more central would give this game a stronger sense of purpose.

I understand that your stretched the ingredients in the script, but maybe the game should deal with other themes. Now that the game is not competing in the Game Chaf anymore, find out which of those ingredients should be replaced with others that can show at first glance what your game is about.
I don't think the comments you received are bad, I think they are a nice point to start from to make the game better. :)

Well, certeanly points about the game were surely right, and i knew i had to work harder on them as soon as the Game Chef finished.

I admit that about the cookery note I am a bit surprised. Looking to other jobs, i see that many (the majority) used it more like litteral setting elements, without working on them very much, and i was a lot... convinced, about my Desert --> Apathy.

Anyway, as you say now I am more free to develop the game as I prefer. I have some idea I would like to work on. Let's see what happens.
