Abbiamo passato un po' di tempo a leggere le regole, decidendo chi dovesse interpretare quale ruolo, e inventando gli spunti di memoria. Le regole attuali richiedono al Padre e al Figlio di inventarsi 4 spunti di memoria, che sono poi mescolati e pescati casualmente dal Tempo, che inizia la scena. Il Tempo tiene anche traccia dello scorrere del tempo e, a seconda di cosa accada in scena, aggiunge minuti al tempo rimanenete al Padre, oppure fa avanzare l'orologio, rendendo più difficile per il Figlio arrivare in tempo.

2. Il mio diploma, che Papà ha quasi mancato
Oh, se ero innervosito! E ferito. Papà era a fare scalata su una montagna, e non è arrivato che appena prima che fosse il mio turno di salire sul palco. Un sacco di vecchio risentimento su quanto spesso mio Padre avesse avuto altre cose da fare. Il Tempo mi ha fatto domande sulla mia ragazza, che stava in piedi a indicarmi l'orologio, come se non sapessi già da solo che mio Padre non fosse ancora arrivato. Alla fine Papà arriva, e fa una mezza scenata nel backstage dell'auditorium. Lo stavo chiaramente allontanando. Il Tempo ha chieso al Padre: "Sai di essere malato... In quale modo ti tradisci e fai un piccolo riferimento alla tua malattia?" E il Padre: "Dico per sbaglio 'se' riuscirò a vedere mio nipote, anziché 'quando'." Samson ci dà sopra, considerando questa affermazione un'altra di quelle vecchie idee su come le donne siano quelle che devono badare ai bambini: "Ma certo che vedrai il bambino, Papà. Non è più come una volta, quando erano le donne a dover far tutto."
Non ricordo quali segnalini sono stati assegnati per questa scena, ma tutti ci siamo resi conto di quanto vicini stessimo arrivando al limite di tempo, e che le probabilità di Samson di arrivare al letto del padre stavano rapidamente calando. Ci siamo accorti che la scena seguente avrebbe dovuto avere un po' di rabbia, per spingere il momento della morte un po' più in là.
4. Sul treno per le Olimpiadi invernali, quando non avevo più di 10 anni
Oh, bene. Questo andra benissimo. Io non volevo essere lì, a un grande evento sportivo con mio Padre. Segnalino rosso dal Padre al Tempo, perché ha messo i suoi interessi prima di me e non ha pensato a che cosa avremmo invece potuto affinché ci divertissimo entrambi. Lui era così entusiasta, e io per nulla. Questo ha veramente mostrato le differenze fra noi, e come le sue speranze e aspettative su di me non avessero nulla di male, ma io semplicemente fossi una persona molto diversa da lui. Il Tempo ha fatto entrare in scena un new-yorkese fastidioso, rumoroso e maleducato nei nostri confronti, ma mio Padre si è trattenuto, e il tipo se n'è andato. Io ero agitato per la quasi-rissa, e ho mostrato un po' di interesse per il tabellone degli eventi olimpici, giusto per cambiare argomento. Mio Padre si è esaltato, facendo grandi piani su tutto le cose fighe che avremmo potuto fare. Il Tempo ci ha detto delle fotografie di noi che indossavamo gli stessi giubbotti-ricordo, mio Padre sorridente e io dolorosamente imbarazzato. Abbiamo scritto le ultime domande e risposte, quindi il Tempo ha descritto la scena accanto al letto con mia Madre e mia sorella. Io sono andato da mio Padre e gli ho preso la mano, e gli ho detto che mi dispiaceva per le pene che gli avevo dato, che lo perdonavo per tutte le volte che mi aveva ferito, e che adesso capivo come mai ha fatto le cose che ha fatto. RECENSIONE
Questo è stato un playtest solido di un buon gioco. Abbiamo avuto alcune domande sulle regole, che dovremmo aver interpretato sempre bene, e alcune note per Matteo su questioni che volevamo verificare. Le meccaniche hanno lavorato bene, non appena ci abbiamo preso confidenza. La lunghezza del gioco è perfetta per un racconto breve, e vedere gli effetti dei ricordi sul tempo rimasto è un buon modo di creare tensione.
L'inquadramento della storia - il padre sta morendo e il figlio accorre per vederlo - suona come emotivamente intensa, e ha un certo livello di realismo con cui alcune persone potrebbero avere difficoltà a relazionarsi, ma il cuore del gioco riguarda l'esplorazione della relazione attraverso i ricordi. Sono uscita dalla sessione con una sensazione estremamente forte di affinità per la famiglia coinvolta.
Dato che tutti gli spunti generati dal giocatore del Padre e da quello del Figlio vengono bruciati alla fine del gioco, c'era moltissima libertà di scrivere cose più personali di quanto avremmo potuto fare altrimenti.
Abbiamo avuto comunque un intoppo: con due giocatori che scrivono ciascuno 4 spunti di memoria, c'è la possibilità che vengano pescati tutti quelli di un solo giocatore, come è accaduto a noi. Questo è un suggerimento che raccomando: fai generare ad ogni giocatore 3 spunti di memoria, in maniera che almeno uno spunto di ogni giocatore venga utilizzato. Noi abbiamo messo via l'ultimo e lo abbiamo ripescato.
Le domande e le risposte finali, che non sono mai rivelate agli altri, arrivano al momento giusto del gioco per fornire un'effettiva catarsi. Lo giocherò di nuovo volentieri.
